Being bored
out of my mind today, I thought it best to get out and spread the joys of
sobriety to some youngsters by handing out some Rockstar SuperStar dog tags.
Where better to do this than a local Oberweis ice cream shop! Despite the
picture, I can promise you they loved the tags and the message!

Relapses happen. They have happened to me and most
others in recovery. They are just a fact of the disease.
If you
relapse, its ok, really! Just get back up and try again. It’s
the only way to stop the madness. Do not let a relapse
convince you that you’re a failure. Remember, you’re the winner, your
addiction is the loser! Here read this blog I wrote,
I know one of these people. He is a brilliant guy. At least he thinks so. He is smart, charming, witty, some say handsome, but he’s also an addict. Because of his addiction, to this day has no car, no possessions or even clothes to call his own. Most think he does, but its true. He has no money, nothing. Really? Nothing? Well I guess he does have one thing going for him and I think he knows it. Its today’s sobriety. This is what he is using to help others succeed where he failed. So after reading this would you call him a failure? Some have, but he does not let things get to him anymore.
He is resilient, persistent and knows he can weather this storm if he wants to bad enough and have anything that he desires providing he stays on this path. His perseverance is beyond anyone’s that he knows, he knows this, and because of it, will ultimately win the race.
I know him well. He has more than he thinks. After all, he has his dreams and no one can ever take them away. Or can they?
Because he is sober, he is frantically working towards them as we speak. He wants to make each and everyone one of them a reality. Not just for himself but for others around watching him to know they can do it themselves if also sober. He is working hard, working diligently. His dreams are waiting for him and he’s closer to them than he has ever been. His dreams are the only thing he has to hang onto anymore. They represent the hope and possibility that things can and will get better if he just tries hard enough.
His dreams are to continue reaching out and helping those that may be afraid to ask for help themselves. His dreams are to continue his work alongside his brother in conveying to as many people that will listen to how important sobriety and responsibility really is. His dreams are to someday soon, finally become a respected member of society and not just “a worthless drug addict.”
I know this guy all right and I am proud to say its me.
Most people think my brother and I have everything, but we don’t. We only have each other and are just like you. We are constantly struggling with our inner demons and suffering the consequences because of them. And also just like you, we get up and try and try again to do things right because we know that one day, we will be looking back on all this and smiling when knowing where we finally got it right.
Approximately a month ago, we were sorry to see Rock Star leave from our
BOD in an effort to go and deal with some “life” situations. We wanted
to let you know however, he is not gone completely. He is still
responsible for updating our websites and wanted to let you all know
that he there for any of you that are friends or a family members of an
addict. If you need to engage in a conversation with Rock Star on any
matter that is sobriety, please call him at 424-644-5315.
Hello all, I just thought I’d share another one of my stories to show anyone that will listen, just how powerful drug addiction can be - even if a loved one’s life is at its end.
So here it is-
My grandmother and I were extremely close. All while growing up and into adulthood, she was the only other woman on this planet; other than my girlfriend at the time, whom I adored. Although I was living in Chicago and her NY, we’d keep in constant contact with one another via phone and I’d often take the trip out just to see her and take her grocery shopping. I didn’t mind the drive, after all, it gave me a reason to get out and get high along the way. I must have been 27-ish. I was falling deeper into an addiction and I don’t think I really knew it.
She had become extremely ill and had been in the care of Hospice towards the end of her journey. One morning, I had received a call from her. She was not at all sounding like herself. She told me that today was her day and that she was going to “go”. As much as I did not want to believe her words, I felt she was right. As our brief telephone conversation was nearing an end, her words became less and less coherent. I told her not to “go” anywhere without me there to help see her through it. I hung up and quickly packed. I had to get going. I had to be there for her.
On the way out of Chicago, I was full of emotions. I can recall despair and sadness were all I felt and I sure the hell didn’t want to deal with those emotions. In fact, I don't think I even really knew how. I always needed drugs to help me deal with them and this time was no exception. If I were going to be successful at sitting in my truck for the next 12 to make the trek. I had to stop and get some!
I was quickly able to pick up a bit of heroin at a stop I had often frequented. I would have preferred some crack to help me stay awake for the drive but it was all the dealer had so I took it. The problem though, heroin is a downer. It makes me sleepy. That’s obviously not good for someone who needs to be alert for the next 12 hrs. Nevertheless, it wasn’t enough to stop me from taking a hit of it as soon as I got it. So there I was, not even out of the state of Illinois yet and I was already high. My addiction had me and I was already not caring about getting to my grandmother to say good-bye. Crazy how we become different people as soon as we have our drugs in our system.
I could not believe what I was doing. Picking drugs over doing what I knew was right. I was aware enough to know that this time was different and I had to do something, at least for the time being, so I could get to NY and get there sober. I needed an act of god to help me get to her before she passed away.
So I pulled over to the side of the road, and for the next few minutes - prayed.
I had prayed before for assistance but never like this. Each previous time, praying to what I felt were to deaf ears, but not this time. I sat, focused and really felt I had a line of communication to my higher power. I felt it, heard it, and definitely had it; I must have because for the next 12 hour drive, I was suddenly in control.
I was alone with my own thoughts for the next 12 hours and was able to deal with them without the use of drugs as a coping mechanism. This brief moment of clarity did allow me to eventually make it to NY and make it there sober as well.
My grandmother did end up waiting for me that night and remarkably just as I arrived to hold her hand, decided to let “go.” It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever been apart of and I could not have done it at that moment without sobriety in my life.
If you feel this could help someone, please pass it on!
Last Friday, the students
at a local school asked We Are One’s very own Super Star to attend their
talent show called ""Under the Sea." The kids even made a
Super Star sign for his chair! “It’s amazing to see how much talent
exists in our communities,” says Super Star.
You better believe he will
be at the next one!

Our very own Rock Star and
Super Star are letting us in on another sneak peak of their upcoming CD
Serenity, touted as the first ever Rock and Roll CD to combat the
disease of addiction to be released this summer. “Our goal with the CD
is to send a strong message that living a life without drugs and alcohol
is the only way to achieve your dreams,” says Rock Star. Since we know
there are kids who would rather listen to music than read a book, we are
using music to reach them in the language they understand.” Other
musical acts also appearing on the CD are members from bands such as
Kiss, Heart, Goo Goo Dolls, and many other of the dynamic duos childhood
heroes. Zak Stevens (Savatage, Circle II Circle), and Chris Caffery,
(Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) appear on this track alongside the
twins who wrote the song and also play guitar and drums, respectively.
“We Are One” will be using the message in the Serenity music soon at
some of our events. Thanks to Rock Star and Super Star for making
sobriety cool!

Here is another sample from the upcoming
“Serenity” CD. This is called “Rockin which features Cherie Currie
(Runaways) on vocals and the amazing Bob Kulick on lead guitar. To work
with these legends was awe-inspiring and could not have been possible
without sobriety in our lives. Bob’s performance is spectacular and of
course, Cherie Currie (Runaways), was also brilliant. We could not have
picked better people to represent this song. This song was written to
remind all of us that we all have a guiding light in our lives and that
it’s important to stay open to it’s messages. Mine was telling me to get
sober and I did, so can you!

While Rock
Star was hanging with Rick Savage today (Def Leppard), I was busy
blogging and doing other "business" stuff. One of the things I enjoy the
most is finding the time to blog. I never knew how much my thoughts were
appreciated until one day I stopped blogging and found my inbox flooded
with requests to start back up again, hence today's blog.
"Kids and chewing tobacco. Could it be a dangerous precursor to drug
use?"
It’s crazy to think that as many as 20% of high school boys and 2% of
high school girls use smokeless tobacco, according to the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention anyway. Just like smoking cigarettes,
chewing smokeless tobacco can eventually rip apart your body and kill
you. It is that simple.
We Are One is picking up
steam. As you know our very own Rock Star and Super Star team have been
putting the finishing touches on “Serenity”, the first ever Rock and
Roll album to combat substance abuse. In addition to this, we have been
working hard on our programs. Our K-I-S-S Klubs and Rehearsal workshops
will soon be in full swing in Chicago and we are really looking forward
to you all there!

Here is just a small sample of the
upcoming song "Claws" as it will appear on the Rock Star Super Star Project
CD "Serenity." Jon Oliva and Zak Stevens, two legends of Metal from Savatage,
uniting again to help combat the disease of addiction with fist throwing howling
screams of Heavy Metal! Enjoy!
While speaking with DJ AM’s
mother Andrea the other night I was reminded of just how painful this
disease is to the family members of those that surround the us. As you
might know,
nearly a year after surviving a plane crash in South Carolina, disc jockey
Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein was found dead in his New York apartment last
September from a drug overdose. He was just 36 years old. DJ AM was a role
model to many kids and adults struggling to come to terms with their
addiction. Despite the terms of his death, DJ AM did make the difference
he set out to and even after his death, is conveying a message to the
importance of sobriety. The message is loud and clear. Drugs can kill you.
My brother and I are dedicating our upcoming CD “Serenity” in loving
memory of DJ AM. May his message help those that are willing to listen
finally get the help they need. DJ AM’s mom has asked us to share the
following with everyone. Please take note to the seriousness of her words.
They are painful to read….
The Truth from
DJAM's Mom:
If Adam were here,
he would tell you......
I have NO desire to
die.
I want to live.
I didn't know that I
was taking too many drugs at once.
As painful as it is to share this with
everyone I feel it’s my duty and it will help others somehow stay sober.
It is an actual account of what happened last year and many months ago
the day after my last relapse.
It’s painful for me to read but if I don’t pass on the gift of what was
given to me then I am not doing what I should be doing.
We have been actively in pursuit of
funding which will allow us to continue our programs and initiatives.
This economy has taken quite a beating on us but we will continue to
push to get everyone the help that they need. Thank you everyone who
showed their support at our last event. We could not do this without
you! To help us, please consider your pre-order of our “Serenity” CD
today!

Here is a clip of another
recent article We Are One's winning singer Dan Suarez.
Dan also took first place in
a recent contest for teen singers to win the chance to record on a CD with
notable rockers promoting teen substance abuse prevention. He will be recording
a track for the title cut of "Serenity," produced by the We Are One Foundation,
based in La Grange.
"Dan showed enthusiasm and
passion in his performance that demonstrated he was the young star we were
searching for," said Kris Kancler, who launched the foundation a year ago
following his own recovery from an 18-year battle with alcohol and drug abuse.
Kancler of La Grange and his
twin brother, Marc, of Malibu, Calif., wrote and recorded the CD's songs with
donations of time and talent from performers in Kiss, Heart, Goo Goo Dolls and
the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
"The contest was
really exciting and I was really pumped to find out I'd won," Suarez said. "The
foundation has an important message that can otherwise get lost in the fray.
It's pretty important."

KISS Guitar
Fetches $1,200 For Women's Charity From: Superstar
The guitar, autographed by all 4
original KISS members, helped the Women At Risk charity recently raise $1,200 at
a charity run fundraiser. "It was my brother's prized possession and surely must
have been difficult to part with," said Super Star. "I am immensely proud of

Rock Star &
Super Star Set Appearance At BuFest To Help Bring Attention To Children's
Charity
MALIBU, CA. (Top40 Charts/
Eileen Koch & Company) - Summer is almost here, which means music festivals are
about to kick into high gear! The biggest news to hit Malibu's prestigious
BuFest is the announcement that Rock Star and Super Star have scheduled an
appearance! They'll be on hand promoting their latest project and showing off
some of their amazing guitars.
More importantly, however, their appearance will help bring attention to a cause
that's close to their hearts; an organization they founded that helps kids
recovering from addiction, called We Are One.
The 2009 BuFest will take place May 30th and 31st at Paramount Ranch and will
feature a booth where Rock Star and Super Star will meet and greet their fans.
On display will be some of their famous guitars, created by Rock Star's company
Malibu Rock Star Guitars, such as the amazing Epiphone Zakk Wylde Les Paul
custom guitar! Retailing for $13,500, this guitar is so hot that it features a
Swarovski crystal finish and gold hardware! At the festival they'll also be
promoting their latest project, a new CD and book package titled "Serenity."
Set for release in September 2009, the lineup of guest stars on this album would
make Santana green with envy. So far they've announced George Lynch (Dokken),
Jon Oliva and Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Mark Slaughter
(Slaughter), Bruce Kulick (Kiss) and many more than I can list here. The
project's concept ties in closely with their organization We Are One.
We Are One is a philanthropic organization started by Rock Star (Marc Kancler)
and Super Star (Kris Kancler), designed to help kids who are recovering addicts.
They've set out on a mission to give these kids a safe place away from negative
influence, and to offer them hope and a sense of belonging.
The brothers regularly hold group and individual rehearsals and workshop jam
sessions with the kids, where they can hang out, have free pizza and discuss
music. These sessions help the kids develop essential skills on the path to
recovery, and best of all let them know.

BraveWords.com has received the following statement:
Brothers ROCK STAR and SUPER STAR are starting a war with one of metal's
greatest vocalists SEBASTIAN BACH (ex-SKID ROW). This feud wasn't instigated
with malice at heart, but rather the desire to help kids and bring attention to
a great cause.
The feud started when a simple
video clip (less than a minute long; can be viewed
below) was posted on Sebastian Bach's
MySpace
page, updating fans about the progress he's made in
the recording studio. The brothers Star caught wind of this clip and decided to
ruffle some feathers, but they had much grander plans up their sleeve.
They crafted their own parody video, a send-up of Bach's studio clip, and posted
it as a response to Bach's video. They pulled no punches; with admiration for
this legend and a great sense of humor, they cleverly lampooned Bach's update.
All of the great rock ‘n’ roll feuds sparked a terrific idea for the brothers,
which led them to start this war with Bach so that they might be able to draw
attention to a cause we all have some relationship with. We Are One is an
organization established by Rock Star (Marc Kancler) and Super Star (Kris
Kancler) to help kids who are recovering from drug addiction.
They've set out on a mission to provide these kids with a safe place away from
negative influence, offering them workshop jam sessions, free pizza and a place
where they can look to and for someone who can understand what they're going
through.
Tied in closely with their organization is the concept for the brother's latest
project, a new
CD and book package entitled Serenity. The lineup of
guest stars announced so far includes GEORGE LYNCH (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB), JON
OLIVA and CHRIS CAFFERY (SAVATAGE, TRANS-SIBEREAN ORCHESTRA), MARK SLAUGHTER
(SLAUGHTER), BRUCE KULICK (KISS) and quite a few other very special surprise
guests.

Making
Sobriety Cool One Note at a Time
(Hollywood, CA) The healing
effect music has on us is undeniable, but the same music in the hands of a
rock legend in the making is very powerful stuff indeed. Thanks to the
media, we have kids turning to drugs and alcohol at startlingly younger ages
each year. Super Star (Kris Kancler) is using his name and the power of
music to help kids achieve their dreams and to stay sober through his
organization We Are One.
We Are One is a non-profit
organization; launched by Super Star and his brother Rock Star (Marc
Kancler) to give teens who are recovering addicts a safe place away from
negative influence. Though this Super Star provides kids aged 15 to 19 with
mentorship and the gift of hope. Super Star’s active involvement in We Are
One relates to his own story, where he found himself in the same place that
these kids now find themselves, trying to recover from addiction. Giving
these kids a sense of purpose and belonging would be an important first
step, but realizing that if he could offer them the tools to help make their
dreams a reality, they would have something much more powerful to keep them
sober. With this in mind, Super Star so generously gives of his time,
teaching group music workshops and providing individual guitar lessons.
There he gets to spend time with them jamming, discussing music and letting
them know someone cares about what they’re going through.
One of the most exciting
aspects of this organization is a new project that Super Star is working on
with the teens. They’re currently recording a professional CD which will
feature the kids playing one of Rock Star’s original songs!
For Super Star music has been an important part of
his recovery and therapy; as he sees the positive impact it’s making in the
lives of the kids who reach out to him. He realizes that through bettering
the lives of others, and sharing his gift, is the best way we can better
ourselves. Their website is a valuable resource, and a great to help
recovering teens

BENEDICTUM singer
Veronica Freeman has been added to the line-up of Serenity, the album from
rock-n-roll royalty, twin bros Rock Star and Super Star.
As previously reported, the album features the following guest appearances:
Cherie Curry (Runaways), Stevie Rachelle, (TUFF), George Lynch (DOKKEN,
LYNCH MOB), Chris Caffery (SAVATAGE, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA), Carlos
Cavazo (QUIET RIOT, RATT), Mark Slaughter (SLAUGHTER), Zak Stevens (SAVATAGE,
CIRCLE II CIRCLE), Jon Oliva (SAVATAGE, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA) and Bruce
Kulick (KISS, UNION)
An excerpt from a press release reads as follows:
Serenity is as screamin' as it is serene, and the endgame is a revolutionary
record that weaves a tapestry of top-notch tunes as melodious as they are
memorable!
But perhaps most impressive is that these bad boys are all good! Super
socially aware, Rock Star and Super Star have always had a hand in reshaping
the world through their art. Spinning their
music
in an effort to raise awareness with their exceedingly personal non-profit
organization, We Are One (www.weareoneonline.com), which aims to support
kids recovering from drug addition. The brothers are once again utilizing
their music to inspire, and tapping into the transformational power of it -
to literally change lives.
So keep your hearts, eyes and ears open wide for some serious serenity!

Met
with Mark Slaughter today. Wow, did we pick the right person for the job on our
forthcoming CD. This guy has been outspoken from the very beginning about how
awful drugs can be to oneself. He will be singing three tracks on our CD and
will represent Rock Star’s character. His attitude and commitment, AND ideas to
help promote our CD are very inspiring. So glad we have him on board!

We are
working on what it is that will be the “first of its kind” approach to getting
the message to kids about the harmful effects of drugs. So excited about this.
We are meeting with someone Tuesday that will help us turn this thought into
reality. In the meantime, we have been contacting some schools and soliciting
them for some time in their classrooms for us to hold some seminars and are
finalizing some dates on a few that have said yes. Will post those dates as they
have been more solidified.

Oh my
goodness. I had an epiphany on the plane last night. We are going to do
something so magical and so unique for our We Are One project that it will blow
your minds! Never been done before. Stay tuned! Sometimes I wonder how I come up
with this stuff. That what happens when you are sober. You’re focused and can
expend all that energy and creativity that you would have normally used on
getting your fix, and apply it elsewhere and in a more productive means….
By the way, I
do read all your emails and am appreciative for all.

Two brothers legally changed
their names to monikers to provide some extra "oomph" to their marketing
campaign for their new project.
